The first private orchestra to be founded in post-Soviet Russia, the Russian National Orchestra was launched under the direction of Mikhail Pletnev. The great Russian pianist has concentrated increasingly on conducting, placing his talents at the service of the great symphonic repertoire and of Russian works in particular. This will be an all-Slav programme, ranging from Bohemia to Russia; the orchestra is joined by the soloist Gidon Kremer, one of the most exciting violinists of his generation. We can be sure that there will be nothing commonplace about Kremer's interpretation of Tchaikovsky's well-known Concerto.
